The Kebbi State Government has fixed July 27, 2026, for its third inclusive mass wedding programme, with 300 Muslim and Christian couples from the state’s 21 local government areas expected to participate. Also, Governor Nasir Idris has approved the payment of dowries for all 300 brides, with N250,000 allocated for each, totalling N750m.
The initiative, organised in collaboration with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation, will cater for eligible orphans, widows and divorcees who meet all religious, medical and legal requirements for marriage.
Chairman of the Organising Committee and National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, announced the date while briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
Argungu said the programme would remain open to all qualified residents regardless of religious affiliation, noting that Christian couples also participated in previous editions.
“By the grace of God, we are going to witness a mass wedding of 300 couples. The ceremony is scheduled for July 27, 2026.
“The mass wedding is open to all, irrespective of religious affiliation. Last year, some Christian couples were also included.
“In Kebbi, we do not discriminate. We have Muslims, Christians and traditionalists. Whoever meets the criteria set by the committee will be considered for the wedding,” he said.
He described the event as the third edition of the state government’s mass wedding initiative, following the successful marriages of 300 couples each in 2024 and 2025.
Argungu explained that application forms had already been distributed across the 21 local government areas, while several sub-committees had been inaugurated to oversee security, transportation, medical services, religious affairs and general coordination.
He disclosed that all intending couples were undergoing compulsory medical examinations, including pregnancy, genotype and HIV tests, alongside other legal and religious screening processes.
“The state government and its partners will also provide furniture, food items and other household materials to help the newly married couples establish stable homes,” Argungu said.
He added that local furniture makers had been contracted to produce beds, wardrobes, sofas and other household items for distribution to the beneficiaries, saying the programme had also generated employment opportunities for carpenters, suppliers and labourers across the state.
Argungu noted that the marriages would be formally solemnised on July 27 by religious clerics after the payment of the approved dowries and completion of all required procedures.
