Novak Djokovic progressed to the third round of the French Open after seeing off French world No 74 Valentin Royer 6-3 6-2 6-7 (7-9) 6-3 amid a feisty Roland-Garros atmosphere.
With the Frenchman battling back to take the third set via a tie-break, Djokovic started to react badly towards the crowd at Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Indeed, the 39-year-old put his finger to his lips in a shushing action at several points, and after victory struck a familiar pose of playing a violin with his tennis racket from the court. The Serb was also booed by the Paris crowd.
Djokovic will next face Brazil’s exciting 19-year-old Joao Fonseca in the third round for a place in the last 16 in Paris. Fonseca fought back from two sets behind to beat 20-year-old Croatian Dino Prizmic 3-6 4-6 6-3 6-1 6-2.
